Many Americans like you are being contacted by collection agencies who are trying to get payments on defaulted accounts they have acquired or been assigned. Even though you may owe a debt, you still have rights.

You should dispute the debt in writing if you feel as if the dollar amount the collection agency is requesting is inaccurate, if you feel the debt is not owed or if you feel the debt is fraudulent. You can send a letter to the collection agency within thirty days of first being notified of the collection. You should send this letter via certified mail so that you can prove that they received it. In response to your dispute, the collection agency must cease collection activity until they send you some sort of validation of the alleged debt. They can resume their collection efforts again once they produce proof of your debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) regulates what debt collection agencies may and may not do. There are many things collection agencies cannot do or say when contacting you. Collection agencies may not:

  • use abusive or obscene language;
  • call before 8am or after 9pm;
  • call you repeatedly;
  • call you at work, if they know that your employer does not permit personal calls;
  • contact any third party and state that you owe a debt;
  • threaten to have you arrested or imprisoned.

    If any of these things occur, your best option is to consult with a consumer protection attorney.

      RMB calls our home at all hours of the day and night. Some calls are placed by RMB before 8 A.M. RMB never leaves a message. This is illegal. I am unfamiliar with RMB and have no idea why they call us repeatedly. Their calls are disturbing. There is never a message left on our phone. Calls from RMB are sometimes before 8 AM and after 9 PM,

      RMB Inc took my money, but refuses to send receipt or update records reflecting account has been closed. RMB Inc refused to send a receipt or even an email. I had to wait another month to see that RMB Inc left my account open and they lowered what I owed to another amount. I called in, RMB Inc say I owe nothing, and said that they would have it fixed immediately. I just want this completely off my credit report, which can only be done by RMB Inc.

      RMB, Inc. refuses to provide supporting documentation for amount they allege I owe. RMB, Inc.
      began harassing phone calls regarding the alleged debt. I want an original itemized invoice/statement from RMB, Inc. substantiating the amount due before any payment is made.

      I paid RMB Inc. RMB Inc will not send me a receipt. RMB Inc is also still reporting this as unpaid on my credit report.

      I get a phone call several times a day, M-F, from the number 704-409-7001. There is never a message left. After much research, I have found that this number, apparently, belongs to a company called RMB Inc. I have no idea what they want. The only time that I picked up the phone, a computer told me to call a 1-800# without telling me who they were or what they want. I don’t return phone calls to people when I don’t know who they are. I refuse to answer phone calls when they call repeatedly, sometimes 3 or 4 times in a row.

      RMB Inc calls constantly. RMB Inc calls outside the hours the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act says they are allowed to call.

      Very rude and vague . Asks to verify personal information and will not disclose who they are or what they are calling about . Numerous calls a day

      I get numerous calls at work weekly. I feel after stating that I am at work they would not call the number again. Leaving messages with other staff stating they are trying to collect a debt is just wrong. I don’t bother answering the call after the last rude person called me. I was reprimanded by my supervisor for this particular number continuously calling my direct line.

      When RBM, Inc has called me, hey do not respond when I answer. They hang up. Has happened 3 times this week.

      JUST GOT A CALL FROM YOUR 704-409-7001 NUMBER. THE YOUNG MAN WAS VERY VAGE AND DIDN’T WANT TO LET ME KNOW WHY HE WAS CALLING BUT WAS ASKING FOR MY PERSONAL INFORMATION (AFTER I ALREADY VERIFIED MY NAME). I DON’T KNOW WHAT THIS “RMB COMPANY” REPRESENTS BUT YOU ALL NEED TO GET BETTER REPS TO GET YOUR BUSINESS HANDLED
