Many Americans like you are being contacted by collection agencies who are trying to get payments on defaulted accounts they have acquired or been assigned. Even though you may owe a debt, you still have rights.

You should dispute the debt in writing if you feel as if the dollar amount the collection agency is requesting is inaccurate, if you feel the debt is not owed or if you feel the debt is fraudulent. You can send a letter to the collection agency within thirty days of first being notified of the collection. You should send this letter via certified mail so that you can prove that they received it. In response to your dispute, the collection agency must cease collection activity until they send you some sort of validation of the alleged debt. They can resume their collection efforts again once they produce proof of your debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) regulates what debt collection agencies may and may not do. There are many things collection agencies cannot do or say when contacting you. Collection agencies may not:

  • use abusive or obscene language;
  • call before 8am or after 9pm;
  • call you repeatedly;
  • call you at work, if they know that your employer does not permit personal calls;
  • contact any third party and state that you owe a debt;
  • threaten to have you arrested or imprisoned.

    If any of these things occur, your best option is to consult with a consumer protection attorney.

      They claimed to have a hearing for me on toll charges in Harris County but no one ever sent me a hearing date. THEY ADDED 200 DOLLARS FOR NOT APPEARING WHEN I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED. I wanted the opportunity to meet with the judge and was never given a chance. This group does not answer phones or reply to voice mails. THEY SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED.

      Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP is so incredibly unpleasant to work with unless you’re ready to pay 100% of supposedly owed debt over the phone immediately. I just told Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP buzz off and forget about seeing any of my money. I owed $200 on a traffic violation which was somehow turned into $732.00 by Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP and was unable to be contested in the court system for a mistake on their end. Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP are thieves.

      I got a letter from Linebarger Goggan Blair and Sampson about unpaid tolls. I called Linebarger Goggan Blair and Sampson and found out there were admin fees, etc that took the $1.25 toll to almost $30.

      For every speeding ticket I had, I got a $44.00 fee from Linebarger Goggan Blair and Sampson LLP for being on the payment plan. Can Linebarger Goggan Blair and Sampson LLP do this?

      Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson is a rude horrible company. The tolls made a mistake not me. Next thing you know I have a bill from Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson for $300 for tolls. I spoke to the tolls, yes it was cleared with them, no problem. Yet I keep getting this bill from Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson. I called Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson to explain what happened. Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson doesn’t even listen and has no desire to resolve this. Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson just wants me to pay.

      I went online to pay my Florida tolls and received a message that it was sent to Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson. I waited on hold an hour to pay the debt and was charged twice by Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson. Now I have spent two hours on hold trying to fix it and no one at Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson is willing to help.

      Wife received a letter saying we owed over $900 on a tax bill from Illinois for 2012 taxes. I’m a lawyer and keep my tax records. We actually received a refund of around $200 that year. Had never received any contact from the state of Illinois regarding my taxes.
