L and M Accounts Inc is a company that works with various businesses to provide collection services and recover debt. Many Americans like you are being contacted by collection agencies who are trying to get payments on defaulted accounts they have acquired or been assigned. Even though you may owe a debt, you still have rights.

You should dispute the debt in writing if you feel as if the dollar amount the collection agency is requesting is inaccurate, if you feel the debt is not owed or if you feel the debt is fraudulent. You can send a letter to the collection agency within thirty days of first being notified of the collection. You should send this letter via certified mail so that you can prove that they received it. In response to your dispute, the collection agency must cease collection activity until they send you some sort of validation of the alleged debt. They can resume their collection efforts again once they produce proof of your debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) regulates what debt collection agencies may and may not do. There are many things collection agencies cannot do or say when contacting you. Collection agencies may not:

  • use abusive or obscene language;
  • call before 8am or after 9pm;
  • call you repeatedly;
  • call you at work, if they know that your employer does not permit personal calls;
  • contact any third party and state that you owe a debt;
  • threaten to have you arrested or imprisoned.

      L&M contacted me and threated to garnish my wages and freeze my bank account. I have been laid off due to covid. The lady said did you get that stimulus money you need to pay now and they double the amount of the original bill.

      L&M is taking me to small claims court even though I am making payments. I was told that I was “uncooperative” during the first call and the agent states that he “didn’t care that I was making payments”

      Absurd! I was just bullied, yelled at and threatened until I gave up my checking account number. I asked if I was allowed to consult a lawyer first and was asked if I would be more comfortable going to court. Covid or not,
      lay off or not, homelesss and starve to death they don’t give a fuck! Wanted my stimulus money, and taxes. But there is none.

      Beware to anyone who gets a call from L&M accounts. I received a call from a guy who wouldn’t disclose who he worked with. He left me a voicemail and repeatedly called back until I answered the phone. When I answered he was extremely rude. He bullied, talked down, threatened me, put me down, and called me names to try to get me to pay money to his company for a debt. I was dealing with the company that sent him the debt waiting on a call back from management due to the daycare letting my child come home soaked in pee multiple times. This guy the entire conversation all he did was was put me down, call me names and be extremely aggressive with me. Eventually he sent us a summons to go to court. I had even told him I was waiting on a call from the daycare center about the issues I was having but he states he didn’t care. Multiple times I tried to call this daycare but they were not there due to covid and would only accept cash. I didn’t feel comfortable paying cash only with it being given a receipt. Anyways…after we got the summons my husband called to pay and they refused payment because we were not going to pay filing fees since they were not awarded. He tried to tell us that our debt was doubled what was owed. I tried to pay the amount that was owed that was filed on the paperwork again, but he kept refusing to take any payment. I ended up getting the account number off of the summons and paying it online on L&M’s website. I forward the receipt and a picture of the first page of the summons to the attorney who had filed their paperwork. L&M has not contacted me since I made the payment. I’m waiting to see if they reverse my payment and still take us to court.
