I tried to cash a pension check. I ended up getting a little paper with the number 2 code and the phone number for Certegy Check Services. I called Certegy Check Services. Certegy Check Services said it didn’t meet their criteria and something about perimeters. I had cashed checks at this Wal-Mart previously and just thought this issue with Certegy Check Services was because I had never cashed this kind of check before. That was until I tried to cash my income tax check and had the same problem with Certegy Check Services.

I presented a personal check at Lowe’s in Petal MS and received a message “we are sorry that your check could not be authorized and we value your business and apologize for the inconvenience. The clerk at Lowe’s stated that it may be because my check number was a low number. I called Certegy and asked for an explanation and was told by a CSR that she was going to input my information and give it 5 minutes and it should process. I gave it 10 minutes and when I wrote another check it gave me the same response. I have two active checking accounts and only primarily use one. My problem is the fact that you should not be penalized for have more than one checking account and may use one less often than the other. This incident was very embarrassing and time consuming. We are in the 21st century and if there is no other alternative to verify the check writer other than a valid drivers license and check writing history, then the system is flawed and needs to be revisited.
