Many Americans like you are being contacted by collection agencies who are trying to get payments on defaulted accounts they have acquired or been assigned. Even though you may owe a debt, you still have rights.

You should dispute the debt in writing if you feel as if the dollar amount the collection agency is requesting is inaccurate, if you feel the debt is not owed or if you feel the debt is fraudulent. You can send a letter to the collection agency within thirty days of first being notified of the collection. You should send this letter via certified mail so that you can prove that they received it. In response to your dispute, the collection agency must cease collection activity until they send you some sort of validation of the alleged debt. They can resume their collection efforts again once they produce proof of your debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) regulates what debt collection agencies may and may not do. There are many things collection agencies cannot do or say when contacting you. Collection agencies may not:

  • use abusive or obscene language;
  • call before 8am or after 9pm;
  • call you repeatedly;
  • call you at work, if they know that your employer does not permit personal calls;
  • contact any third party and state that you owe a debt;
  • threaten to have you arrested or imprisoned.

    If any of these things occur, your best option is to consult with a consumer protection attorney.

      I currently have 3 medical collections from Central Credit Control on my credit reports. I have never received any type of communication from Central Credit Control other than them reporting these collections to the credit bureaus. I have sent letters and received no response at all yet when I dispute with the credit bureaus, Central Credit Control seems to be able to respond to them. Experian and Equifax have been no help at all. Experian sends me letters telling me that they refuse to investigate because they previously verified that the accounts are being reported accurately. There is no way possible that these collections from Central Credit Control are being properly investigated. The sad part of all of this is that the credit bureaus make so much money, it doesn’t matter if they receive large fines for not properly investigating. They can easily afford it. But the consumer with false information on their credit reports suffers and it can mean the difference between renting an apartment and owning a home. Any potential creditor that pulls my report could easily assume that I have medical issues. When applying for a car loan, the lender mentioned the medical collections from Central Credit Control and told me that they overlook them but at the same time, they use the credit score affected by the medical collections in determining my interest rate. It’s embarrassing. I have nothing negative on my reports other than these false medical collections from Central Credit Control.

      I started to get calls from Central Credit Control at 7172387124. I am getting those calls from Central Credit Control almost every day. Sometimes Central Credit Control leaves a voicemail about “important personal business.”
