Many Americans like you are being contacted by collection agencies who are trying to get payments on defaulted accounts they have acquired or been assigned. Even though you may owe a debt, you still have rights.

You should dispute the debt in writing if you feel as if the dollar amount the collection agency is requesting is inaccurate, if you feel the debt is not owed or if you feel the debt is fraudulent. You can send a letter to the collection agency within thirty days of first being notified of the collection. You should send this letter via certified mail so that you can prove that they received it. In response to your dispute, the collection agency must cease collection activity until they send you some sort of validation of the alleged debt. They can resume their collection efforts again once they produce proof of your debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) regulates what debt collection agencies may and may not do. There are many things collection agencies cannot do or say when contacting you. Collection agencies may not:

  • use abusive or obscene language;
  • call before 8am or after 9pm;
  • call you repeatedly;
  • call you at work, if they know that your employer does not permit personal calls;
  • contact any third party and state that you owe a debt;
  • threaten to have you arrested or imprisoned.

    If any of these things occur, your best option is to consult with a consumer protection attorney.

      BYL Collection Services calls me from 8772775958 all the time. I’ve been receiving voice mail messages for months now from BYL Collection Services. The calls from BYL Collection Services are not for anyone I know. BYL Collection Services calls for Henry something. The message states to hang up if I am not Henry, but if I continue to stay on the line anyway even though I am not Henry. The message goes on to say that Henry needs to call right away to pay off a debt. That’s got to be an invasion of Henry’s privacy. It is really starting to annoy me now. Why is BYL Collection Services so annoying? Well, BYL Collection Services makes $3.1 million per year by being annoying in their efforts to collect old debts.

      I received notice of this supposed debt to BYL Collection Services. Prior to this notice I had not received any bills or phone calls regarding the supposed debt. I called BYL Collection Services and disputed the validity of the debt. . I requested an itemized bill and validation. BYL Collection Services said they would send the itemized bill within 7-10 business days. BYL Collection Services has sent nothing.

      I asked BYL Collection Services LLC for validation of an alleged debt. BYL Collection Services LLC said that they would request an itemized bill from the original creditor. This was months ago, yet BYL Collection Services LLC continues to report on my credit.
