Fast Fact: Pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, it is unlawful for a collection agency to harass, oppress, or abuse you.

Many Americans like you are being contacted by collection agencies who are trying to get payments on defaulted accounts they have acquired or been assigned. Even though you may owe a debt, you still have rights.

You should dispute the debt in writing if you feel as if the dollar amount the collection agency is requesting is inaccurate, if you feel the debt is not owed or if you feel the debt is fraudulent. You can send a letter to the collection agency within thirty days of first being notified of the collection. You should send this letter via certified mail so that you can prove that they received it. In response to your dispute, the collection agency must cease collection activity until they send you some sort of validation of the alleged debt. They can resume their collection efforts again once they produce proof of your debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) regulates what debt collection agencies may and may not do. There are many things collection agencies cannot do or say when contacting you. Collection agencies may not:

  • use abusive or obscene language;
  • call before 8am or after 9pm;
  • call you repeatedly;
  • call you at work, if they know that your employer does not permit personal calls;
  • contact any third party and state that you owe a debt;
  • threaten to have you arrested or imprisoned.

    If any of these things occur, your best option is to consult with a consumer protection attorney.

      Hi , I am writing to you about my debts that I owe waupon hospital. Reason why I have those debts back a few yrs ago is because I was looking for help with my health.. Honestly I was going to a few doctor’s well for the past 10 yrs looking for answers to why I’m sick and basically ready to die .. was in so much pain I couldn’t go to work, or even take care of my children.. honestly I was in so much pain at the time I even tried to kill myself.. I was seeing different types of doctor’s for my issues that I was having, I was told I had fibermiagla , ankilos spondylitis, cancer , heck the doctor in Beaver dam gave me tb laton , injected me with humaira . And at the time I had no insurance because I couldn’t afford it due to being very sick . Plus having the doctors have me try alot of medication . One major one was 7.5-3.25 Percocet 200 a month for my pain then after 7 months they took away my pain meds because they said I was a addict but honestly I wasn’t I was in so much pain . Well then I started to have major problems with my teeth . Had a huge lump in my gums . Come to find out that was the reason why I was in so much pain because I had a infection that went through out my body. Well I had all my teeth pulled out at one time both tops and bottoms. And after that I became healthy again . Yes I’m still dealing with minor health issues now. But I’m living my life slowly. All I’m asking is if you can help me out and take away the debt that is owed due to the hospital and doctor’s is because they didn’t treat me for the correct issues my body went through . I thank you for your time and consideration. God bless you all and hope you have a great day.. Michael kroening.
