Many Americans like you are being contacted by collection agencies who are trying to get payments on defaulted accounts they have acquired or been assigned. Even though you may owe a debt, you still have rights.

You should dispute the debt in writing if you feel as if the dollar amount the collection agency is requesting is inaccurate, if you feel the debt is not owed or if you feel the debt is fraudulent. You can send a letter to the collection agency within thirty days of first being notified of the collection. You should send this letter via certified mail so that you can prove that they received it. In response to your dispute, the collection agency must cease collection activity until they send you some sort of validation of the alleged debt. They can resume their collection efforts again once they produce proof of your debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) regulates what debt collection agencies may and may not do. There are many things collection agencies cannot do or say when contacting you. Collection agencies may not:

  • use abusive or obscene language;
  • call before 8am or after 9pm;
  • call you repeatedly;
  • call you at work, if they know that your employer does not permit personal calls;
  • contact any third party and state that you owe a debt;
  • threaten to have you arrested or imprisoned.
  • If any of these things occur, your best option is to consult with a consumer protection attorney.

    B and B Collections in Toms River, New Jersey called from 7323499200 looking for me. Jack Brown, Jerilyn Brown, Rose Sweeney Ganet appear to be the only employees of B and B Collections.

    B & B Collections just called me for the 20th time. I again explained to B & B Collections that I canceled and paid off my subscription to the Star Tribune Newspaper and that I owe nothing. B & B Collections just starts yelling and telling me that I owe the money.

    I asked B and B Collections Inc for validation of a debt they allege I owe. B and B Collections Inc was very rude and hung up on me twice. B and B Collections Inc is collecting for a dentist’s bill which was covered by my insurance.

    I received a bill from b&b collections inc stating that a owe a physician bill from 9/10/2019. Upon trying to call them several times over a few days, the phone only rang one time then prompted you to leave a message. I left a message an no one has yet to get back to me. But that’s not the interesting part, I had to search for the number to call, one number was a walmart gift card “winner” and the others just rang or immediately promted to leave a message. So to find out what is going on I call the facility they say this bill came from. The billing department ran all of my information and could not find the date of service they say I got treatment for., my last date of service with this facility was back in 2017. The billing department even said they do not use this company to collect their debts and to try to call the collections agency again and ask for an itemized bill. I can not get a hold of anyone to try to solve this matter before it impacts my credit for fraudulent claims. I’m at a loss of what to do.
