At some point in time, most people have to deal with debt. There is positive debt that helps you build credit and eventually earn a profit, such as a well-managed credit card account or a home mortgage. On the other hand, there are debts that can quickly become a burden to you and your family, such as medical bills and unpaid student loans.

The most frustrating part about debt for many individuals is not the concept of owing money, but rather, the harassing and abusive behavior that you could be subjected to at the hands of a debt collection agency. There are many third-party debt collection agencies operating across the United States, and the more you know about some of the major companies, the better.

What is AllianceOne Receivables Management?

AllianceOne offers a wide range of services to clients in a variety of industries. While its services include accounts receivable management for financial, telecommunications, education, government, and utility industry companies, it also conducts first-party and third-party collections for companies ranging from the automotive and healthcare industries to retail and utilities.

As a collections and accounts receivable management group, AllianceOne promises its clients industry and client-specific strategies for collections, along with analytics and data tailored to each individual client. While the status of many collection agencies is questionable or lacking with the Better Business Bureau, AllianceOne is accredited with the BBB.

With that said, accreditation through the BBB does not inherently mean a company operates above the board. The BBB points out that any company with a BBB accreditation has met standards for that status and that it makes a good faith effort to resolve disputes. AllianceOne earned its accreditation in December 2010, and has had 24 complaints closed successfully in the last three years, with an A+ rating from the BBB.

How to Deal with Harassing or Abusive Behavior

Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, or FDCPA, debt collectors and debt collection agencies must abide by a set of federal guidelines when it comes to contact with consumers and collection efforts. Any debt collector that calls you constantly after you request that they stop, calls before 8AM or after 9PM, alerts your family, friends, or co-workers to your debt, or uses threatening and abusive language on the phone is in direct violation of the FDCPA. In this case, you have the legal right and power to fight back against this behavior.
